Keyword Development from the Top Down
February 28, 2008
As I’ve written about before you can use Google Analytics to collect and harvest the keywords that your customers and viewers use to find you. So what do you do once you’ve got the keywords and how do you best apply them to your website’s structure?
Design your keywords from the top down
What do I mean when I say “designing from the top down”? Top Down refers to taking a global view and moving to a detailed view of your website in terms of keywords and keyword development.
For Example
Let’s say you have a website for a landscaping business
Landscaping Website Homepage - keywords related to general landscaping would appear here
Landscaping Website Lawn Maintenance Packages Web Page - keywords are tiered towards lawn maintenance and keywords that are more specifically tailored towards people looking for lawn maintenance packages
Landscaping Website Deluxe Spring to Fall Lawn Maintenance Package Web Page - keywords are focused towards this package, these are the most specific keywords and even though they may attract a lower amount of viewers the conversions will be higher than home page conversions
As you can see sometimes using a top down approach towards keyword strategy in your website can play to a specific advantage for your business.
